Test your phone with the Qipit Test Page
July 9th, 2007We’ve said it before, all camera phones are not created equal. And because most camera phones currently distributed in the US are equipped with poor to average camera technology, and because most people are not professional photographers working in studios with perfect lighting conditions, Qipit technology is optimized to correct many of imperfections that often occur when a photo has been taken with an average camera phone under everyday conditions by a nonprofessional, such as glare spots, blurring, poor contrast, and shadows. We’re continuously working to improve our technology while testing new phones with our service as they come on the market.
One of the simplest testing tools that we use to help us identify how well a camera phone will perform with Qipit is the Qipit Test Page.
We simply print a copy of this page, snap a picture with the phone, and upload it to Qipit. Snapping a photo of this page and using Qipit to transform it into a digital copy, will tell us the types of written or printed information that a person can qipit with their camera phone—right down to the small print.
One of the phones I like to use with Qipit is the Sharp 903SH. Because of its size, I fondly refer to it as the “shoe phone”. It’s a UMTS/GSM tri-band folder phone that I purchased in Paris about two years ago, with a 262k color 240×320 pixel main display. It has the industries first 3.2 megapixel camera with a 2x optical zoom lens. It also has light modes that allow you to make qipits in complete darkness. (I know, spy stuff.) It’s bulky but it’s a great phone with an intuitive interface and most important of all, it takes great photos of documents that Qipit turns into fantastic digital copies. Oh, and it has Bluetooth for easy upload and the battery lasts for days.

So while Qipit’s CEO is currently having a love-fest with his new iPhone, my Sharp 903SH shoe phone and I are still inseparable. Check out the results by clicking on the thumbnail below—and notice the small print on the qipit digital copy. Not bad for an old phone.
Why don’t you test your camera phone using the Qipit Test Page so you’ll be able to anticipate how well your phone will work with Qipit to produce digital copies of whiteboards, news print, printed documents and handwritten information. And we’d love to see how your phone performs so if you’d like to share the results with us, simply:
1. Click on the Qipit Test Page picture at the beginning of this post to download the PDF of the Test Page
2. Print a copy of the Test Page
3. Write in your phone type and carrier in the boxes provided
4. Take a picture of the page
5. Instead of sending to the usual Qipit addresses, send the photo to test@qipit.com for processing. (If you’re used to uploading from your Qipit account, you can simply attach the photo to an email and send to the same address.)
By sending to the test address, we’ll receive a copy of your qipit digital copy and will be able to use your results to help us better understand real world results with various camera phones. If you’d like to keep your results to yourself, simply create your qipit digital copy the usual way by sending to copy@qipit.com (black and white copies) or color@qipit.com (color copies).
