Robert Scoble and the Nokia Nseries Camera Phones
November 3rd, 2007When the iPhone was released this summer, Robert Scoble, a “must read” tech blogger, compared it to his favorite Nokia N95 of the Nokia Nseries. He concluded that while the iPhone was the superior phone in so many ways, he would have to stick with the N95 because of the much higher quality of the camera. The quality of the camera is obviously an important feature to him. Scoble is excellent at spotting trends and his analysis indicates, I think, that mobile phone manufacturers will be forced to upgrade the quality of their cameras rapidly in order to remain competitive. A trend we are very excited about!
For some perspective on the topic, just imagine our society today without mobile phones. Only a short time ago, mobile phones were not a part of everyday life the way they are now. We’ve come to take them for granted, even my parents carry one all the time. So while we’re still tolerant of lower quality cameras in our mobile phones, we will soon come to expect higher quality as a standard feature. The iPhone won’t be the only product line affected. Handsets at lower price points will have to be outfitted with higher quality camera modules in order to meet consumer demand.
As I have written before, qipit works best with higher quality camera phones, those with one mega-pixel plus resolution and auto-focus or macro-mode, like many of the nseries phones. As these new camera phones become ubiquitous, the capability to replace scanners, fax machines and copiers with your camera phone using qipit, will become a standard.
The Nokia Nseries site is featuring qipit as a useful productivity app right now. Check it out, and leave a comment about your experience with qipit, if you want. We agree with Robert Scoble that the N95 and the rest of the Nokia Nseries are great products. They represent the future of the camera phone.
So here is what the N95 can do with qipit:

I can read the very last line, which is at a 5 point font. That really makes the N95 an extraordinary camera phone.

We really like the Nokia N95, it is a great camera phone.
