Change to Qipit Fax Policy

July 3rd, 2008

We really, really, really did not want to make a change, but we had to do something about a handful of fax abusers and a few outright spammers. Qipit is intended to be used as a personal fax service, a convenient alternative to a bulky fax machine. Something you use while in your hotel room, on site at a client’s office, while making sales calls, at home, or if you just didn’t want to walk across your office to the fax machine at the end of the hall. We never intended it to be used for commercial mass faxing.

Of course, one way to bring balance to the faxing equation would be to start charging, but we didn’t want to do that. We really like providing a valuable service to consumers for free. So, after studying the faxing behavior of our user base, we determined that the vast majority of our users do not send more than 5 individual faxes per week, which is the basis of our 5 faxes per user per week policy. After each fax is sent you will see a notice with a count of how many faxes you have left for the week. Each week your count starts over, the week starts on Sunday at 12:01 am (in Paris, France), that would be 6:01 pm (EST), 5:01 pm (CST) and 3:00 pm (PST).

If you believe 5 is not enough, we welcome your feedback on the subject. We really are happy that so many of you are using Qipit and our faxing feature.
